In an interesting article on Electronics360, LauroRizzatti(former GM of EVE-USA before Synopsys acquired EVE and now verification consultant) argues that TTM is now so crucial that the advantages of emulation (faster simulations, longer simulations, parallel SW development, etc.) now justifies the expense of emulation. This is evidenced by the continuous increases in emulation spending within the industry.

Lauro also discusses how emulation is now more efficient through remote access. Indeed, cost of ownership is now being reduced through “emulation in the cloud” and rental deals giving emulation by the hour!

This all tips the balance towards emulation financially and the continuous increase in SoC complexity backs it up technically.
